Inventory Software
Computac’s Retail Division focuses on the development of inventory software for retail operations. That focus began over twenty years ago with the creation of SQUARE ONE, a complete system for bookstores. Our approach then, and the one we continue to use now, is to immerse ourselves in our customers’ environment and learn what tools the inventory software must contain to allow store management to successfully run all aspects of their business, from point-of-sale to purchasing and receiving, to customer ordering and CRM (customer resource management), to book returns, accounts payable, accounts receivable, sales and inventory analysis, etc. Two very valuable benefits have arisen from that approach. First, our staff has become very knowledgeable about and sensitive to the demands of the retail environment. Our systems are built to meet those demands. We also recognize that we have to be responsive to the unique needs of each store, which is why we more so than most inventory software vendors are willing to do custom programming for our customers and in some cases even for potential customers. Secondly, in SQUARE ONE we have developed the most comprehensive system in terms of the features it offers available on the market.
As technology has advanced and changed in the twenty plus years that we have been involved in retail systems we decided that a response to those developments was needed. We took our knowledge base of retail operations and created a new product that we call [i]merchant. While our first system was dedicated to bookstore and then museum store environments, the new system targets general retail operations. It deals with all of the issues present in the bookstore realm but goes beyond them to accommodate other types of products and ordering requirements without forcing them into a book inventory methodology. [i]merchant is inventory software applicable to gift stores, music and instrument stores, convenience and clothing stores, general merchandise stores, etc. As before we remain committed to meeting the unique requirements presented by our customers and are open to learning about new retail environments and incorporating that knowledge into the system. We also are constantly reevaluating our system to insure that it stays adaptable to the latest hardware technologies, like wireless networks, RFI, hand-held devices, touch screen displays, OPOS (open point of sale) connectivity, Internet compatibility, and more.
