UPC ISBN Box

The UPC/ISBN editing box fills in automatically when you scan a product's barcode into your system. So, for books, when you scan a title's ISBN, the UPC/ISBN box will automatically fill in with the ISBN. For general merchandise, when you scan the product's UPC, the UPC/ISBN box will automatically fill in with the UPC.

However, you can change the value in the UPC/ISBN box if you want, and you can add additional rows to the box (multiple barcodes) if you desire--for example, a Mass Market paperback will have multiple barcodes. The first row, as stated, will fill in automatically when you scan the title into your system; but you can manually add other barcode numbers below that row, or replace the scanned barcode value with another one.

Note:

When you scan a Mass Market paperback's barcode, the system will swap the title and price sections of the barcode, in essence enabling the system to identify Mass Market paperbacks at the individual-title level.

Important:

Any ISBNs or UPCs in the UPC/ISBN box must be unique throughout the system. That is, you cannot have duplicate ISBNs or UPCs for different products. You can have multiple items residing under the same ISBN or UPC (item-level inventory), but they would all be considered by [i] Merchant to be the same product (such as different editions of the same book--two items, same title or product).
